Sometimes it is amazing to me the people our company hires...
On 1/18/08 a receptionist at one of our Nursing Homes in New Hampshire was going to mail a check to be deposited in a Lockbox we use company-wide for all deposits at the FedEx box on her way home...she had car trouble and went instead to the mechanics garage...he said she shouldn't drive the car. Well...she never took the check/FedEx package out of the car ...it was sitting in the car UNTIL YESTERDAY, at the mechanics !! It was never sent to be deposited before month end ...oh...did I mention the amount of the check....
yea....
over $195,000.00!
Now, how much interest do you think that money would have earned over a 10 day period, HAD IT MADE IT TO THE BANK??  How do you forget that you are driving around with a check for that much money? Wouldn't the next day you realize...oh yea...I was on my way WHERE when I had car trouble...oh yea...drop off that CHECK?? OH MY>>>I LEFT IT IN THE CAR...no...apparently the people up there don't think like that....
The thing is...there were about 5 people trying to figure out where this check was all morning, since they reported it mailed on 1/18/08. The lockbox/bank reports the deposits to our Andover office...so there were about 3 people there researching deposits to locate it, I was trying to help, my supervisor was worried because that DEFINITELY effects the cash flow and operation of the nursing home and there they are...the office manager and receptionist not even caring or realizing that it was not mailed. It wasn't until I asked "What is the FedEx tracking number so we can verify the delivery date" did they realize it was in her car at the garage!
Dumb and Dumber....and we employ them?????????? I hate incompetence!
